“Final and definitive edition James Joyce’s ULYSSES. Together with much new appendix, material containing documents relevant to the legal history of the book & an up-to-date bibliography of Mr. Joyce’s work.”

A classic of modern British book design, with the binding designed by the English Artist and typographer Eric Gill. Gill’s bow was reproduced on subsequent Cape trade editions and has become a widely recognised symbol of Joyce’s great novel. The text of this edition is based on that of the Olympia Press edition, revised by Stuart Gilbert to Joyce’s instructions (Slocum A20). This edition includes two appendices bringing together the material from the 1934 Random House edition relating to the lifting of the ban on the book in the United States; the text of the injunction granted in favour of Joyce against the publisher Samuel Roth; the text of the ‘International Protest’ against Roth’s unauthorised serialization of Ulysses, with a full list of the signatories (including Virginia Woolf, T.S. Eliot and Ernest Hemingway); and a bibliography of Joyce’s works.
