The four scenes which make up ‘Within the Gates’ are set in a London Park during four times of the day and over the four seasons of the year.

O’Casey first thought it would work better in ‘a film of Hyde Park’. To that end he surprisingly tried to interest Alfred Hitchcock in the project, as Hitchcock had filmed Juno and the Paycock in 1930.
