Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) was an English author, playwright, and poet, remembered above all for creating the timeless children’s character Winnie-the-Pooh. His most celebrated works include two volumes of poetry, When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six (1927), which capture the innocence and imagination of childhood. He also published two beloved story collections: Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928). These books introduced readers to Pooh Bear and his circle of friends—Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo—set against the enchanting backdrop of the Hundred Acre Wood, inspired by the English countryside.
Howard Shepard (1879-1976) was an English artist and book illustrator. He is known especially for illustrations of the anthropomorphic animal and soft toy characters in The Wind in the Willows and The Pooh Books.
