The pioneering work in this field on Oliver Cromwell’s conquest in 1652, which aimed to relocate the entire Irish population to the desolate province of Connaught and repopulate the remainder of Ireland with loyal English settlers.

The book chronicles the events that led to and encompassed this massive displacement of people. It vividly recounts the experiences of those evicted, including individuals of high rank, title, and even English heritage, such as Lady Dunsany. It provides detailed accounts of the land clearances, the exceptions made, the issuance of transplanters’ certificates, and the legal proceedings that accompanied the large-scale relocation of the population
