Frontispiece plate showing  Ballyshannon from Portnason. Variant publisher's binding in brown cloth, title lettered in gilt to centre of upper cover within a double ruled border in blind. Shelf wear & light staining to boards, contents bright & clean throughout.

Hugh Allingham was born in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, 28th April 1845. He was a half-brother of the poet William Allingham. He worked as a bank manager and was a keen local historian
