Nathaniel Colgan (1851–1919) was a keen amateur Irish naturalist, the Flora of the County Dublin is regarded as one of the most important contributions to Irish botany. His 1896 monograph on the history of the shamrock in Ireland is still the definitive account, and probably his best-known work.
