This specimen of Beckett's later fiction was written in 1965, when the author was 59 years old. Beckett then translated it into English himself as Imagination Dead Imagine. In this piece Beckett achieves a style imitating a descent into the imagination. By describing his fantastic image (a white vault within a white rotunda housing two white beings lying within a three-foot-diameter circle) in a matter-of-fact tone and with scientific precision, he makes it come alive.
