Tales Told of Shem and Shaun. New York: The Black Sun Press, 1929. Number 81 of 100 on Japan Vellum. Signed by Joyce on half-title. With a "portrait" line drawing by C. Brancusi. Bound in Japan Vellum wrappers with dust jacket of handmade pape printed in red & black. Mild toning to wrappers, contents in fine condition. Housed in custom made solander box. When Brancusi's celebrated abstract portrait of Joyce was shown to John Joyce back in Dublin, he remarked of his son's likeness: 'The boy seems to have changed a good deal.' This sole example of the sculptor Brancusi's graphic contribution to a book is as important for the reproduction of his drawing as for the publication of Joyce's fragments from his not-yet-completed masterpiece 'Finnegans Wake. ' [Slocum & Cahoon A36].
