The History of the Theatre Royal, Dublin. From its foundation in 1821 to the Present Time. Reprinted, with Additions, from Saunders' News-letter. Dublin: E. Ponsonby, 1870. Pp 204. Sm 8vo. Rebound with original cloth laid over covers. Light spotting to some pages but generally good internally. The Theatre Royal on Hawkins Street, Dublin, was a huge theatre, the biggest in Europe at one time with room for 4000 people. Built in 1821, it had a theatre, cinema, wintergarden and restaurant and it was very popular. The theatre closed in 1962 as it was loss making by then.
